Do You Have These Five Success Skills?
These five success skills will greatly increase your chances of being the success you want to be. Do they form part of your personal growth? Are they part of your business plan?
Effective Communication:
Being able to communicate effectively (both when speaking and in writing) helps us work better together and more efficiently. Miscommunication causes loss of productivity, time, money and most importantly credibility. Whether you are a sole entrepreneur, small business with staff, medium or large organisation or corporation – communication and speaking skills should be part of your plan for success.
“If the best real estate, is all about ‘location’, ‘location’, ‘location’; then the mantra for running the best business has got to be ‘communication’, ‘communication’, ‘communication’.” Richard Branson.
Networking:
Networking provides you with a group of people you can ask for feedback, advice, and support. Make it a win-win situation – help them and they help you. Leverage the contact you make; networking is all about who knows you and how you can help. Find the network groups that resonate with you, your values, your vision and your business.
“Surround yourself with those who lift you higher.” Oprah Winfrey
Goal Setting:
Goals are essential part of your success. Without goals you will have no idea which direction you want to go or how to get there. There are 4 things you need to include to achieve goals – commitment and belief, planning, vision and accountability. Write your goals down, put a time line, be flexible and review.
“All successful people have a goal. No one can get anywhere unless he knows where he wants to go and what he wants to be or do. ” Norman Vincent Peale
Time Management:
We only have a finite amount of time – we need to use it wisely. Procrastination is a great time waster, as is bright shiny object syndrome. Too easily we can get distracted. Time management is all about prioritizing and staying focused. Avoid distractions and work on one task at a time. It’s deciding what’s most important and what will have the biggest impact. How to make it happen in the most time efficient manner?
“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.” – Zig Ziglar
Patience:
Success doesn’t happen overnight. Put the right foundations in and build on them. You have to be in this for the long run. Lean to be patient and celebrate your little successes along the way.
“Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.” Samuel Johnson
If you don’t have these skills right now – that is okay – each of these can be learned. Find mentors, coaches, surround yourself with positive people. Always seek to grow and remember your why – why you are doing what you are doing, why you want to be a success. What does success mean to you? Each of these skills will help you to achieve your answer.
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman
